Overview
Cenote El Pit is a deep and mysterious sinkhole in the Dos Ojos Natural Park, plunging over 120 meters. Recreational dives typically go to 30-40 meters. It is famous for crystal-clear water, dramatic light beams penetrating the deep darkness, and a hydrogen sulfide layer at 30 meters creating a misty atmosphere. A halocline where fresh and salt water meet adds to the surreal experience. Recommended for experienced divers.
