Overview

North Entry to Salt Pier. Rocky, lava entry that can be somewhat challenging with waves. Salt Pier is located on Bonaire's southern coast near the island's salt works. The site features a large industrial pier supported by concrete pilings that are heavily encrusted with corals, sponges, and other marine growth. Depths range from approximately 5 to 15 meters (16 to 50 feet), with the surrounding reef extending deeper. The site is known for abundant marine life, including schools of grunts, snappers, tarpon, barracuda, trumpetfish, moray eels, turtles, and occasional eagle rays. The pier's structure creates a unique underwater environment with numerous opportunities for underwater photography. Salt Pier is a shore-access dive site and is suitable for divers of all certification levels. Visibility is typically excellent, often exceeding 20 meters (65 feet). Because the pier remains an active salt-loading facility, diving may be restricted when cargo ships are present.

Access: Boat and shore access. Parking lot is normally and entry points are marked by yellow stones. During pier maintenance or when a ship is docked, the site is closed.

Marine life: Turtles (usually very shallow) Tarpon, Barracuda, Octopus, Frog Fish, Seahorse.

Safety: Pier is a working structure, so falling debris can be a hazard.
