Overview

Kalopigado, also known by its traditional name Vromopousi, is a coastal bay situated between Keratea and Thoriko along the eastern Attica coast. The underwater terrain consists of a rocky fringing reef, limestone outcroppings, and submerged sand corridors, with depths sloping down to 22 meters.

Access: Reach Kalopigado (Vromopousi) by driving east from Keratea or north from Lavrio toward the coastal settlement of Kalopigado. Access to the water is either via the small marina or directly over the rocks. Divers enter from the marina area or the coastal rocks to reach the fringing reef and underwater slopes.

Marine life: Documented marine species observed at Kalopigado include common octopuses (Octopus vulgaris), common cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis), common stingrays (Dasyatis pastinaca).

Safety: Dives should be planned in accordance with local marine weather and surface swell conditions. Deploy a surface marker buoy when ascending in open water away from coastal rock formations.
