Overview
Chelononiso is a rocky islet off southern Attica offering a calm shallow reef dive with boulder formations, limestone crevices, and Posidonia seagrass meadows down to 18 meters.
Access: Chelononiso is accessed by dive boat departing from local harbors in Regional Unit of East Attica, Attica. Dive boats anchor or secure to mooring lines above the site.
Marine life: Documented marine species observed at Chelononiso include common octopuses (Octopus vulgaris), common cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis), Mediterranean monk seals (Monachus monachus).
Safety: Dives should be planned in accordance with local marine weather and surface swell conditions. Deploy a surface marker buoy when ascending in open water away from coastal rock formations.
