Overview

Islet that is very close to Varkiza. The North part of the island is very shallow, perfect for training dives and for Open Water dives. The South part of the island goes down to 40+ meters, with walls, lots of marine life and some swim throughs.

Access: Pontikoniso is accessed by dive boat departing from local harbors in Regional Unit of East Attica, Attica. Dive boats anchor or secure to mooring lines above the site.

Marine life: Documented marine species observed at Pontikoniso include Mediterranean moray eels (Muraena helena), dusky groupers (Epinephelus marginatus), greater amberjacks (Seriola dumerili), Mediterranean monk seals (Monachus monachus).

Safety: With maximum depths reaching 42.0 meters, this site requires Advanced Open Water or Technical certification. Divers must exercise disciplined gas planning, monitor depth progression closely along the drop-off, and strictly adhere to non-decompression limits.
