Overview

The Legrena Boat Engine Wreck is a deep underwater technical site featuring the massive diesel engine block, transmission gear, and driveshaft of a large commercial vessel that foundered off the Cape Sounio coast. Resting on a steep boulder and rock terrace between 40 and 52 meters depth, the colossal machinery has become an encrusted artificial reef surrounded by deep-water gorgonians and large pelagic predators.

Access: Legrena - Boat Engine Wreck is a shore dive accessible directly from the coastline of Attica. Divers enter the water from the rocky shore or beach.

Marine life: Documented marine species observed at Legrena - Boat Engine Wreck include dusky groupers (Epinephelus marginatus), black scorpionfish (Scorpaena porcus), European conger eels (Conger conger), spiny lobsters (Palinurus elephas).

Safety: With maximum depths reaching 52.0 meters, this site requires Advanced Open Water or Technical certification. Divers must exercise disciplined gas planning, monitor depth progression closely along the drop-off, and strictly adhere to non-decompression limits.
