Overview

"Anthony's Reef" or "Antonio's Rock" is a picturesque fringing reef located in the eastern region of Makronissos. It features abundant coral bommies, rich purple soft coral colonies, and barrel sponges. The site is suitable for all divers with generally good visibility. Marine life includes grouper, mullet, octopi, scorpion fish, and sea stars.

Access: Antonios Reef is accessed by dive boat departing from local harbors in Kea-Kythnos, South Aegean. Dive boats anchor or secure to mooring lines above the site.

Marine life: Documented marine species observed at Antonios Reef include dusky groupers (Epinephelus marginatus), greater amberjacks (Seriola dumerili), Mediterranean barracuda (Sphyraena viridensis), Atlantic bluefin tuna.

Safety: Dives should be planned in accordance with local marine weather and surface swell conditions. Deploy a surface marker buoy when ascending in open water away from coastal rock formations.
