Overview

An underwater canyon starting at 8 meters and descending to 20 meters, ending in a massive rock wall that drops to 40 meters. It offers excellent visibility and is suitable for both beginner and advanced divers. On the right side there are some small caverns where seals live.

Access: Makronissos Canyon is accessed by dive boat departing from local harbors in Kea-Kythnos, South Aegean. Dive boats anchor or secure to mooring lines above the site.

Marine life: Documented marine species observed at Makronissos Canyon include Mediterranean moray eels (Muraena helena), dusky groupers (Epinephelus marginatus).

Safety: With maximum depths reaching 35.0 meters, this site requires Advanced Open Water or Technical certification. Divers must exercise disciplined gas planning, monitor depth progression closely along the drop-off, and strictly adhere to non-decompression limits.
